Franchise Australia is led by David Costello, Chief Executive Officer, formerly Head of Franchising with NatWest Bank in London and an experienced franchise development and training consultant. David and his board are supported by a team of top franchise industry professionals across a range of disciplines.
The Franchise Australia brand was previously owned and operated by the late John Brown, a legendary figure in Australian franchising. In recognition of his 40+ year contribution he was, in 2010, inducted into the Australian Franchise Hall of Fame. In 2023, he was further recognised for his Lifetime Achievement by the Franchise Council of Australia. John sadly passed away in August 2025.
John Brown was an advocate of practical, no-nonsense franchising strategy. Although he’s now left us, the original ‘DNA’ of Franchise Australia continues through the methodologies, programs and systems that he developed. The current team are honoured to recognise (and continue) John’s work and the contribution that he made, throughout his career, to good ethical franchising in Australia.
The John Brown Award, part of the annual WA Excellence in Franchising Awards, continues to be bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership in the sector.
